Improved Bolting Cylinder for the Sandvik Axera DD421
The Sandvik Axera DD421 two-boom development drill rig is technically designed for drilling tunnels, in Australia and New Zealand (much more so than overseas) it is often used to install rock bolts for ground support, which creates a lot more wear and tear on the boom than may have been intended.

Doubling Component Life Underground: MASPRO’s Cradle is Transforming Bolting Performance
The article highlights how MASPRO has re-engineered its bolting cradle and pipe assembly to address long-standing issues with OEM and after-market alternatives used on Sandvik SB60 jumbos. Many miners had been reinforcing OEM cradles before use due to premature failures. MASPRO developed a purpose-built cradle using specialty steel, achieving double the life of OEM equivalents without modifications.

After bundling complementary parts into a full assembly and collecting extensive field data, MASPRO launched its version two cradle with key improvements: reinforced weld positioning, stress distribution, safety shoulders to prevent feed drop-offs, removable service covers, and corrosion-resistant upgrades. These refinements have delivered more than 100% improvements in fatigue life, reducing maintenance, downtime, freight, and carbon output.

The cradle is part of MASPRO’s Bolting Series 2.0, which also includes advanced zoom assemblies, bolting cylinders, and a bolting DPU. Each product is engineered to handle the stresses of Australian underground mining while lowering total cost of ownership.

By continuously evolving its designs with client input, MASPRO is proving how Australian engineering innovation can deliver global impact, helping miners improve productivity, reliability, and efficiency underground.
